Natural History

Here, there is selected information about, and pictures of birds, mammals, insects, butterflies, moths, spiders, lichens, mosses, plants, trees, reptiles, amphibia and other plants and animals with dates and places where they occur in the Senni Valley.

To make a valuable record of local Natural History, check the UK 'Biological Records Centre' BRC, which is the national custodian of data on the distribution of wildlife other than birds in the British Isles. It has details of how to contribute information through specialist organizations.

The National Biodiversity Network (NBN) is being setup to provide online digital independent resources to link data on biodiversity in the UK. Local 'nodes' will be setup by 2010 providing Local Records Centres (LCR). A pilot LCR was setup in 2000 in Powys and the Brecon Beacons National Park. The Natural History Museum has begun to setup a species dictionary and other Natural History resources that will be developed under the NBN.
